A Fine Fall Day

DISCLAIMER: I know it’s not “officially” fall, and that there really is no “fall” in Los Angeles as other people in other parts of the country experience it but it wasn’t 110 degrees (43 C for certain people…) It’s my blog and it’s fall here. So shut it.

Anyway, Saturday. Beautiful. Perfect temp, light breeze. The light has changed. And I dragged my sorry tired ass out of bed after three hours of sleep to go and meet up with Madge and the rest of the awesome oops/ask crew to go see Steph’s talk at the Central Library in downtown.

Three hours of sleep. Three. Which may explain why I couldn’t remember my name (or anyone else’s) or string together full coherent sentences. Mostly I just stood around slack jawed and tried to eat other people’s yarn (this is not actually a new phase. I’ve tried it before).

To prove my punch drunkenness I saw this as I was driving downtown. And I laughed my fool head off, mostly because I have seen many things (furniture, ladders, a suitcase with all the clothes and shoes strewn about, body parts [ew. more times than I care to count to be honest], a crane, presidential motorcade…) on the freeways of L.A., but an entire house had not yet been among them. Also I was laughing because it was on the other side of the freeway and I saw miles and miles of cars (literally) backed up while I sailed by at 80 mph (130 kph).

I love the Central Library. So beautiful. So many books. And also I met the boy on a movie that shot at the very top of the library tower.

That’s me on the left. 1018 feet (310m) up on the helicopter pad!

Isn’t he gorgeous? Hi baby! I love you!

Anyway I met up with all the girls and I have photos to prove it:

You were expecting a different kind of photo while there were 11 knitters with blogs standing around with cameras?

I didn’t get a photo of the line were we in once were were inside, but it was lame. And we couldn’t drink water or sit on the ground. Or breathe, possibly. Here was one of our wardens:

Frau Cupcake was very very lucky she didn’t decide to ban knitting needles. Blood would have been shed.

The Mark Taper Auditorium is pretty intimate. Much smaller than I thought it would be.

More crowd photos.

I have no idea what this guy is doing…

Hey! I know these people!

Let take a minute and stop for some upholstery dorkery:

That is the library and tower woven into the fabric.

Here is the group shot that I forgot to post with the other photos in the last entry:

I have no idea why Madge decided to hide behind Patty.

Anyway, Steph’s talk was awesome and very very funny. If you ever get a chance to go to one of her talks you absolutely should. You won’t regret it.

I took a few photos of Steph to prove that her hair did indeed look good:

I will say that the light in the auditorium sucked for photos. The big girl camera was not happy about all that warm light. And while all of the photos here are photoshopped in some way, I did not “touch” the hair.

After the event we went and Suehiro in little Tokyo, talked until our brains went numb (or mine anyway, though I hope I wasn’t alone) and wandered around a little bit.

We found a Buddhist Temple where someone’s ancestors came up to the lens of my camera to say Hi.

All in all it was a great day (very nice to see knitters in the wild- so many knitters outside the library on such a fine day) with really great people.

To say my soul needed a little bit of that after working on this show is an understatement.

The biggest FO of all:

The soul killing show I’ve been on? Friday (or Fraturday as we’ve taken to calling it as we usually get home after the sun comes up on Saturday morning) Friday is my last day. I gave my notice last Friday night and I couldn’t be happier. My boss? She’s not very happy with me. Especially since town is very busy right now and she’s having trouble finding someone to replace me. Well. I guess that’s what you get for acting like such and ass for the last 2 months. And not letting me knit on set. Anyway, I have a week off and then I start on my new show.

Anyway, I’ll post all about it next time…along with some actual knitting content! Pinky Swear!

Ha… I had to take a picture of the library cop, too. She just enjoyed making people stand in a straight line WAY too much. She took her job very seriously.

    Congratulations on the new gig!
(I love the upholstery, that’s pretty nifty. And the boy: HOTTIE)

Thanks so much for posting the Harlot photos. My darn car crapped out before the talk and I couldn’t get a ride fast enough……

I’ll have to make myself feel better by buying some yarn.

Congrats on the new gig too!!

    Love and Laughter,
    Amy
